This morning our town received an official visit from the President of the Junta de Andalucía, Juan Manuel Moreno Bonilla. He was accompanied by the Minister for Development, Infrastructure and Territorial Organisation, Marifrán Carazo, and the Government Delegate for the Province of Granada, Pablo García, amongst other public officials of the Junta and the Alpujarra region, including our Mayor, Raúl Orellana. In a public ceremony they opened
the recently renovated bridge over the Rio Chico as it goes through Orgiva.
Of course the Di No a las Torres de Alta Tensión en la Alpujarra and Lecrin Valley Platform (taking advantage of this opportunity after various previous attempts to get over to these authorities our rejection of REE’s plan for an electrical mega-project) were there at the official ceremony with the not easy mission of getting our dossier to the Junta President and being seen promoting our citizens’ protest group’s cause of over a year…

At last, after some difficulties due to protocols and viewpoints that complicated our dialogue with the local authorities, we were given an opportunity to talk initially with the Government Delegate Pablo García (who members of our platform had already visited in his office in Granada a few months ago). He made clear his unconditional support from Granada for the suspension of the mega-project crossing our region and also noted that he himself had signed in opposition to it. Finally, later in the Orgiva Town Hall various members of the
platform managed to be directed towards meeting the Junta President. They were able to deliver by hand our dossier that included our manifesto, a letter explaining our complaint and objectives as a platform, and a summary of our activities to date. We hope that these authorities that work for the welfare of their citizens really do help us against the threat of REE.
