As some of you know, the Andalusian Government has opened a public consultation on a project to boost the current through the existing electrical network from Orgiva to Benahadux (Almería).

REE wants to increase the amount of electricity that will run through the cables by 35%.

This will cause the temperature to rise in the cables and for them to hang lower, thus significantly increasing the risks of fire and carcinogenic radiation outside and even inside existing houses under and near the line. The same will occur in the Órgiva Electric Substation.

This citizens’ platform is currently in dialogue with the local council, and preparing generalised objections. We are also waiting to receive a Technical Report on this project to support our objections.
